Zendesk is the standard, and for a support department of thirty with an SLA to report on, it is the right answer. For a store where three people answer email between other jobs, most of what you pay for is the part you will never open — and the part you need most, which is knowing whether the thing is in stock, is the part it does not have.
| Relay Panel | Zendesk | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | ✓A shared inbox that knows your store | A ticketing platform with a large configuration surface |
| Knows your catalogue and stock | ✓Yes — reads WooCommerce directly, live | Not without an integration or custom work |
| Time to a working setup | ✓An afternoon: connect the store, forward your address, paste the widget | A project, usually with help |
| What the AI is allowed to do | ✓Draft. Sending stays with a person unless you turn auto-send on, and even then only for grounded answers | Resolve autonomously, billed per resolution |
| Citations on an answer | ✓Every factual reply carries the page it came from | Depends on the article and the model |
| Phone | ✓Calls, recordings and voicemail in the same inbox | A separate product tier |
| Self-hosting | ✓Supported — your box, your database, your backups | No |
| Shape of the bill | ✓Per seat, per company. No charge per AI answer. | Per agent per month, plus AI resolutions, plus add-ons |
First response time by queue, breach reporting, CSAT trends by agent. Relay Panel does not have this yet; it is on the roadmap and it is not close.
Skills-based routing, shift schedules, approval chains, dozens of agents. That is what Zendesk is for and it is very good at it.
Relay Panel reads WooCommerce. If your store is somewhere else, most of the reason to switch disappears until the adapter for your platform lands.
The honest way to compare an assistant is to ask it something only your store can answer. That is what the waitlist is for — you will get one email when signups open, and nothing else.
Moving from Zendesk? Your conversations are yours; there is nothing here that holds them.
